Abstract

The thesis writer studies the character traits of Julius King in A Fairly Honourable Defeat which is written by Iris Murdoch. This study is aimed at understanding the characteristics of evil through the main character, Julius King. The writer of the thesis is challenged to analyze the character traits of Julius King in this novel to know how the characteristics of evil are revealed through the main character, Julius King. By using the theory of characterization and the idea of evil, the writer concludes that Julius King's mind and attitudes reveal the evil character. Furthermore, by studying the character in this novel, the thesis writer finds out that the main character, Julius King, really has evil character. The thesis writer further concludes that what people say and do can be deceiving. It means that what people say and do are not always the same as their inner qualities.
