Abstract

Swear words as forbidden words are not only used by adults but also by elementary students. This phenomenon makes the writer curious to do research on the use of swear words by a group of YPPI I elementary students in order to have a written proof of the use of swear words by the youngster. Through this research, the writer tries to find out what swear words and the most type of swear word are used by YPPI I elementary students in their daily communication. The writer uses the combination of swear words classifications suggested by Wardhaugh (1986), Hughes (1991) and Jay (1992) to classify and analyze the swear words used by the respondents. The writer uses questionnaires to collect data, which are given to both students and parents-teachers. The results of the analysis show that animal term is the most swear words used by the YPPI I elementary students.
