Abstract

This study was a sociolinguistic study about interruption which was done by the female host on Playboy Kabel reality show. The writer wanted to find out the reason on why the female host did interruptions during the show. In addition, he also wanted to find out the discourse markers used by the female host when she did the interruptions. The source of data in this study was one episode of Playboy Kabel broadcasted on February 16, 2008. The data of this study was the utterances of the female host which contained interruptions during the show. The writer used Wardhaugh?s (1985, p. 151-156) theory to find out the reasons of interruption and Schiffrin?s (1987, p. 126-309) theory to find out discourse markers. The writer recorded and wrote the conversations which occurred in the show. Through the analysis, the writer found that the female host did the most interruptions and the most frequent reason in doing her interruptions was seeking clarification. The writer also found out that the female host likely to use discourse markers of information management and markers of response such as ?o, oh, hah, yee, yes? to do interruptions during the show. The writer also found that the female host used interruptions mostly for seeking clarification.
