Thus, this study is supported by sociolinguistics theories on Language Choice about its social factors by Janet Holmes and Kridalaksana. Since this study is focused on the second-person term of address, the writer then also uses Henrikus Supriyanto et al theory, which mentions the five different kinds of address terms used/spoken in East Java. Moreover, the study uses descriptive approach as it is designed to obtain information dealing with the use of second-person term of address in relation with addressee?s ethnicity. Finally, the writer finds out that those Chinese Indonesian students tend to address their Chinese friends using kamu, koen, anda, jokes name and paraban name. Meanwhile, they address their Javanese friends with kamu, kowe, koen or paraban name. Even more interesting, the writer finds out that in some conversations address term is sometimes not being used/absent. Last of all, the writer finds out that the use of second-person term of address is not influenced by addressee?s ethnicity; rather it is influenced by the speaker?s regional dialect.
