Abstract

Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is a novel written by David Sedaris, reflects David Sedaris?s life, and tells about the struggle of a man to find his true identity, a homosexual. In this study the thesis writer is interested in analyzing the causes and the process of the main character?s becoming a gay in Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. In the analysis, the thesis writer uses psychological approach, by applying the Exotic Becomes Erotic (EBE) theory. As the supporting theory, the thesis writer applies Identity Development of Homosexual theory. The thesis writer finds the causes of the main character to become a gay, such as society?s role, parent?s treatment, and playmate?s influences. The thesis writer finds that the main character has been going the process of becoming a gay into three periods, such as: childhood period, pre-adolescence period, and adulthood period.
