Abstract

This thesis concerns with the efforts of female character, Katya, to get acknowledgement as the member of the crew from the male characters in David Gibbins Atlantis. David Gibbins? Atlantis shows how a woman can reach the equality with men, by showing the female character, Katya, facing the dangers equal with men. The thesis writer analyzes Katya?s efforts using literary approach to analyze his work. He will use the theory of characterization and conflict to reveal Katya?s efforts through the actions, speeches, and observations of the female main character and also through the ideas of several main characters. In discussing the efforts, the thesis writer divides the analysis into three parts. The first part discusses Katya?s effort by giving useful information. The second part explains about the Katya?s effort by translating the ancient script and interpreting it, and the last part the writer discusses Katya?s effort by becoming a competent negotiator. In the conclusion, the writer finds out that the presence of Katya gives a lot of advantages and solution for the crew. The efforts that Katya does can make the other crews respect and acknowledge her, and also not underestimate her anymore.
