Abstract

The stylistic study that the writer wants to analyze here is about comparing between classical and contemporary poetry. Because the writer felt interested through this topic since she has taken this study. In this study, the writer has chosen the four poems, and classified the four poems into two parts. Then, the writer makes the comparison among them, because the writer wants to find out the significant differences and similarities among them. The theory that the writer uses is from Michael Toolan, this is about stylistic of fiction and also from Collinge, that is about the use of lexical in stylistic. Then, the data of the study is obtained from the poems itself. The writer uses qualitative, since it is a case study. It is found here, that classical poetry is more eternal than contemporary poetry. The material of classical poetry is up to date, and the readers will not get bored. The findings of this thesis by looking the semantic aspect, tone, style, and theme, the writer can see that so many differences and similarities among the four poems. This research is expected to contribute to a better understanding of styles as used by different poets. This study can be approached by means of studying stylistic.
