Abstract

This is study of politeness strategies of desearate expressions used by Bree Van de Kamp in some episodes of Desperate Housewives. The writer interested in investigating politeness strategies because understanding this theory is very important in buildinga good relationship with other people in daily conversation (Brown and Levinson, 1978. In her thesis, the writer wants to reveal Bree's desperate expressions by using politeness strategies. In the analysis, the writer uses Brown and Levinson (1978) theory of Politeness Strategy. The writer uses Desperate Housewives as her data, particularly on season two, which contains desperate expressions. As a result, the writer found out that politeness strategy can reveal Bee's desperate expressions, even though in her most desperate situations she did not use any politeness strategies anymore.
