Stephen Crane's short novel Maggie: A Girl of the Streets is a successful picture of social life in general. In this novel, Crane tries to present his idea about social life that social life brings destructions to its people. This novel shows but the destructiveness of social environment and inability of man to avoid the forces of social life. The people of Rum Alley society in this novel are forced to adopt and the follow moral values imposed in the society in order to be accepted in the society. The forces cause the people to live in pressure. To carry out the social moral values, the society has ignored the value of human worth. This is clearly shown through the chaps of the character Maggie. Rum Alley society has filled to guide and arm Maggie that Maggie falls into prostitution and kills herself in her effort to seek a change in her life.
