Abstract

People commonly use TM (Text Message) from the mobile phone nowadays. The language used in the text is in special written language. The writer tries to search the short forms applied in the unique TM of JTV?s "SMS Gaul" show through word formation processes. She uses descriptive qualitative approach to reveal the type of word formation processes and their frequency. The writer uses four episodes of JTV?s "SMS Gaul" show. The research began by transcribing the TM texts. Following that, the writer analyses the uncommon short forms used in that show. Through the classification of word formation processes by Yule (1996), the writer focused on three types of word formation processes applied in the show. The highest frequency is clipping followed by multiple processes and miscellaneous. Those processes mentioned above are found in the TM in JTV?s "SMS Gaul" show. As conclusion, using word formation processes, the type and frequency of the short forms found in the Text Messages are revealed.
