Abstract

This study is about language loss among different age groups of Dayak Ngaju speakers in Palangka Raya. The writer was curious to know whether language loss occurred among Dayak Ngaju speakers or not. This study focused on two main questions. They are (1)What language is used the most by Dayak Ngaju speakers in different age groups in Palangka Raya, (2) What are the differences among adult, teenagers, and children of Dayak Ngaju speakers? in terms of the ability in using Dayak Ngaju language, and The respondents of this study are divided into three age groups, such as; adult, young-adult, and teenager and each group consist of thirty respondents. In order to get the data, the writer made and distributed questionnaires to the respondents. From the distributed questionnaires, the writer found out that Dayak Ngaju language is still a dominant language among the speakers? daily conversation, especially among adult and young-adult speakers. The adult speakers have the best ability in using and understanding Dayak Ngaju language than the younger and youngest age groups. Meanwhile, teenager speakers have less ability in using and understanding Dayak Ngaju language.
