Abstract

I, Robot is a novel that presents the future when the human starts to live with the intelligent technology, in this case the robots, and shows the relation between human beings and the robots. In this case, human, as a creator, has difficulty to trust the robots. Therefore, the writer wants to know why the human distrusts the robots and what the effects are. The writer uses literary approach, such as theory of conflict and theory of characterization, in order to help the writer in this thesis to analyze the causes and effects of the human?s distrust and the concept of distrust as a supporting theory. The thesis writer finds out that there are three causes and two effects of the human?s distrust. The first cause is the influence of another human character. The second cause is the robots? own character. The third cause is the human?s jealousy. The thesis writer also discovers the effect of the human?s distrust. The human character has an internal disturbance and finally, distrust leads them into broken relationship between human and human and between human and robot.
