Abstract
The purpose of this research is to expound on the theories and practices of public speaking in the context of teaching and learning. By utilizing literature study as the research method, the researchers discovered that historically, public speaking has its roots in the Greek tradition of rhetoric. Theoretically, it is within the domain of public communication not only differs from other forms of human communication but also from random speaking activities in public. Focusing on an audience-centered speechmaking approach, the research delves into the position of student as an audience and how speechmaking should be crafted with their interest in mind. From the teacher’s end, public speaking in a teaching environment, this research discovered that public speaking should be practiced both methodically as a technique and in a humanist manner as an art.
