      Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between teachers’ teaching skills and students’ learning motivation in the Mathematics subject. The background of this research highlights the essential role of teachers in fostering a learning environment that stimulates student motivation, particularly in Mathematics, which is often perceived as challenging by many students. This study employs a quantitative correlational approach. The research instruments consisted of questionnaires distributed to students to assess their perceptions of their teachers’ teaching skills and their learning motivation levels. The normality test results indicated that the data were normally distributed (Sig. = 1.000 > 0.05). The linearity test showed a linear relationship between teaching skills and learning motivation (Sig. = 0.001 < 0.05). The Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significance value of 0.052 (> 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.430, indicating a moderate positive relationship between teachers’ teaching skills and students’ learning motivation. These findings are consistent with previous studies by Ole & Makausi (2022) and Sulle & Tulak (2021), which also showed that teachers’ teaching abilities significantly influence students’ interest and motivation. The results suggest the importance of enhancing teachers’ competencies in managing Mathematics instruction in creative and communicative ways to effectively boost students’ enthusiasm for learning.
