This thesis is the study of Fabrizio's conflict and their effects to his final decision in Stendhal's The Charterhouse of Parma. It will analyze a character who faces a whole serie of conflicts when he attempts to find pleasure from the worldly happiness. The main character, in this novel, will experience such external and internal conflicts when he tries to find his happiness. The external conflict will show how the character faces problems when he pursuits happiness from adventure and love affairs. And the internal conflict will show how hard the character has to struggle against himself when he has to make such decision. Dealing with the conflicts, at last the character realize that he is not able to find pleasure from the worldly happiness and he chooses to live in the monastery to search for his eternal happiness.
