This thesis is an analysis about the conflicts which cause a battle between love and power. The thesis writer analyses the conflicts that are faced by the Duke when he plans to remarry after the death of his wife. He experiences external and internal conflicts when he decides who he should marry. The Duke's conflicts with his son and his ladyloves. Rosabel and Perpetua, lead to a battle between love and power. The Duke has to struggle against himself when he tries to choose between using his power or finding a true love. However, finally after undergoing many conflicts the Duke realizes that it would be better for him to gair a true love rather than use his power to win a woman. The Duke decides to marry Rosabel with whom he finds a true love. Those conflicts also make the main character change his character into a good one.
