Abstract

In this study, the writer is interested in studying request strategies between male and female from a movie entitled Norbit. Here, the writer wants to find out the request strategy used between the main male character and main female character in Norbit movie based on the types of request strategies. The writer uses the main theory of Blum-Kulka to categorize and analyze the types of request strategies in the movie. He also uses descriptive quantitative approach to find out the factors that cause the use of request strategy between the two characters. The results show that the main female character in the movie frequently uses Mood Derivable as a part of direct strategies when she is talking to her husband while the main male character in the movie frequently uses Strong Hint indirect strategies.
