The thesis writer is interested in making research about Barchester Towers since the novel talks about getting ambition for power. Ambition for power is an interesting topic because it always happens anytime and the main characters in tlie novel long for power and try to do anything to fulfill tlieir ambition. Since ambition becomes tlie key word of novel for tlie thesis writer, she intends to analyze it further. Tlie thesis writer wants to know why the main characters in the novel; Mrs. Proudie and Mr. Slope are ambitious to get power and she is curious to know how they try to achieve their ambition. Through tlie analysis, Hie thesis writer wants to prove how the main characters can achieve their ambitioa Tlie thesis writer uses library research and surfs internet in order to get imformation. The thesis writer applies the theory of characterization to support the analysis. In addition, tlie thesis writer adds tlie cultural background of Victorian Age to support tlie analysis. As a result, the thesis writer finds out that in Barchester Towers, the clergymen exercise the worldly practise by having ambition for power.
