Abstract

This thesis deals with the optimistic view in several of Langston Hughes' poems. The optimism can be attained by even' human being. This philosophy can make the people who have it has a belief that things can be better someday. The thesis writer is interested in the optimistic view of Langs!on Hughes and wonders in what way the optimistic view is revealed through several of Langston Hughes' poems. The sense of optimism can be obviously recognized in his poems: "I, Too", "Dream Variations, "Youlh", "Motto", "Dreams", "Freedom's Plow", "Life is Fine". Langston Hughes, in those poems thinks that dream has a very important role in human beings' life, and he is sure that there is a better future for his race in the American life. In this matter, the thesis writer analyzes more (he optimistic view in some of Langston Hughes' poems through (he diction, as well as the imagery and the figures of speech. Finally, through the analysis, (he thesis writer finds out that the optimistic view is revealed Huong!) diction. His ideas are also reflected in his use of imagery and figures of speech. Dealing with this thesis, Ihe writer hopes that the readers will have more optimism in their life, especially for those who have some burdens that they have to face.
