Generally, swear words are those words, which are used to insult, or to curse someone or something. The writer finds that swear words can be used readily as they often express mood or feelings. In addition, the writer also finds that today, many people in modern society in different class use swearing more often. Therefore, the writer did this analysis in order to give some contribution to the society that the original meaning of a swearing term erodes over time. The title of this thesis is The Use of Taboo Words to Swear in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Film. There are two problems that appear in this study. Firstly, how many kinds of taboo words are used to swear in this film and secondly, what do the taboo words to swear convey. To answer all the questions, the writer analyzed the swearing words using the transcription of the film. In the analysis, the occurrences of swear words can be classified based on the meaning such as (one?s) mother in law, certain game animal, sex, death, excretory, bodily functions, anatomical, religious matters, and general. Here, general means that swear words have no definite meaning. Then, the writer also classified the swear words based on the speaker?s mood such as annoyance, anger, offense, frustration, emphasis, happiness, hostility, surprise, and miscellany.
