Abstract

Errors cannot be separated from the process of learning. Studying learners? errors is significant since they function as a sign of learning. This thesis is a study of errors on plural morphemes produced by some Indonesian adolescent learners in learning English as a second language. In this thesis, the writer observes the types of errors on plural morphemes made by some adolescent learners. In fact, the writer wants to know the types of errors that occur and their frequency of occurrence. In order to solve the problems in this thesis, the writer relied on some theories of second language learning, error analysis, and English grammar rules (especially about plural morphemes). The writer used descriptive approach in doing this study. The subjects of this study are some Indonesian adolescent learners (aged between 10 and 19) who have already learned the English plural forms. The writer collected the data by using a test. The test is in the form of linguistic manipulation task in which the test is focusing on the linguistic rules. The findings show that the errors mostly occur in the irregular category. The types of errors occur the most is the errors that are produced by making the same plural and singular morphemes. This type of errors include in the irregularization errors.
