Abstract

The fact that Jawa Pos has been awarded as The World Young Reader Prize 2011 by the World Association of Newspapers acknowledges the significance of DetEksi as a part of the newspaper. According to the judges, DetEksi is a complete strategy of Jawa Pos to find, to collaborate with, and to maintain the young readers. DetEksi has made JawaPos considered as the most innovative newspaper that commits itself to young people both in its news-pages and its offprint activities. This paper discusses that despite the fact that DetEksi as a part of Jawa Pos has been successful and admitted, it has not been interfered by the filter issues such as having been proposed by Herman and Chomsky in their propaganda model. In their propaganda model they assume that news conveyed by the media to public has been filtered by the government or state-corporate. DetEksi has succeeded to escape and develop into the heart of young people in the news, activities, even in its making without being bothered by the propaganda model. DetEksi proves to be adaptive and to keep up with the changing world.
