Abstract

The idea of employing enjoyment in the language classrooms is not a new one. One famous method in language teaching is Desuggestopedia in which music plays an important role. The use of music to develop language skills has been acknowledged in second language (L2) classrooms since music can help learners build their vocabulary and affect learners motivation in learning. However, pop music as a powerful tool has rarely been used in writing classrooms where most L2 learners encounter some problems. Elicitation of ideas is by far the biggest obstacle that L2 learners face. Most L2 learners in Petra Christian University experience this difficulty when they write. Thus, an action research was conducted in order to solve the problem. In this action research, two kinds of pop music Instrumental music and songs were played as the background music while the learners wrote. The findings show that pop music had a great impact in the learners complexity of writing.
