Abstract

The study deals with sexual addiction experienced by the main character inGabriel Garcia Marquez?s novel entitled Memories of My Melancholy Whores. Inthis novel, the main character has gone to bed with more than 514 prostitutes sincehe was young. This habit continues until his nineties. Due to the significant plot ofMemories of My Melancholy Whores, mainly on the addiction of sex of the maincharacter, this thesis aims to figure out the causes of the main character?s sexualaddiction and the effects of his sexual addiction. Reaching the purpose of thisstudy, literary approach namely characterization and conflict as well aspsychological concept of sexual addiction is applied. It eventually turns out thatthe main characters suffers a great addiction of sex because he has passedunpleasant experience related to his sexual life when he is a child and the fact thathe could not deal with his bad experience and he lives in it. It ends up with hisaddiction to sex and made him become a sexual addict. This sexual problemmakes him lose everything. Indeed it appears with the main character?s causes andeffects of his sexual addiction.
