Abstract
Gunawan Tanuwidjaja1, Lo Leonardo Agung Mulyono2, Devi Calista Silvanus3 1 Dosen Jurusan Arsitektur Universitas Kristen Petra 2,3 Mahasiswa Jurusan Arsitektur Universitas Kristen Petra gunte@peter.petra.ac.id Abstract Dr. Heinz Frick’s House design, Semarang, has environmentally friendly and affordable design features. This was started with using local labour and local materials, recycled materials and using environmental friendly materials. Secondly, the House was designed very functional, with adequate room size, beautiful existing scenery and adequate lighting. Thirdly, the House was built to create people awareness for Sustainable Design, although it was not fully succeed due to economical and social barrier of the Indonesian community. Fourthly, the maximising cross ventilation and reduce the humidity strategy were applied in the House design. They were done with opening design such as: glass louvers windows, ventilation openings, and jalousie doors, which were equipped with mosquito net. Lastly, water saving strategy was implemented in the House design. It was conducted with the rainwater utilisation for non-potable use. Meanwhile, water from the Water Utilities Company (PDAM) was still used for drinking and cooking. In conclusion, the Dr. Heinz Frick’s was a perfect solution for Indonesia because of its appropriate and affordable design. Keyword: Sustainable Design, Green and Affordable Homes
