The Reception of the Young Chinese to the Television Shows on Imlek

Abstract
This paper deals with the reception of the young Chinese Indonesians who were born in the 90s to the television shows during the Chinese New Year (Imlek) with the assumption that they do not understand what was going on during the life under the New Order and even they may not remember what happened during the Reformation era. It addresses the question of how theseyoung Chinese Indonesians give meanings to the shows. I will demostrate that their televisionwatching experience when watching the Imlek shows is structured by and structuring the discourses within with these young Chinese Indonesians as audience are discussed.
