Abstract

The thesis writer decides to analyze George Orwell's Burmese Days and chooses the title A Study on the Rejection Toward John Flory because the writer is interested in the rejection of the society toward John Flory which leads to his death. The writer is curious to find out John Flory's attitude towards the English, the reasons of John Flory's rejection by his society and how the rejection leads to his death. The purpose of the thesis is to analyze John Flory's attitude towards the English, the reasons of John Flory's rejection by his society and to discuss the rejection that leads to his death. In analyzing the topic, the thesis writer uses the theory of characterization, conflict and psychological theory as her tools. John Flory has abivalence attitude towards the English. He accepts the English and he also rejects the English. His attitude towards the English makes him is rejected. His attitude towards the English and the rejection toward him makes him feels unhappy and lonely and this feeling leads him to his death. For him, his death is the only way out to release himself from the sufferings of rejection.
