This thesis is a study of plot in Henry James' The Turn of The Screw. The plot has been skillfully built and developed in the said novel. It makes the novel a master-piece in literature. The definition of plot, its element and techniques are presented on the first chapter. This prepares some knowledge regarding the discussion of the plot. Its impor-tance is also pointed out to further the value of plot for the novel. The prologue in the novel prepares readers about the supernatural tale and it uses the devices of the Gothic novel. The element and techniques mentioned previously are seen chapter by chapter of the novel. The suspense, iro-nies, unexpected changes, surprises, and others enhance the development of the plot. These various elements are significant and contribute to the whole story. As such, the author skillfully weaves the plot and its elements and produces a valuable and successful novel.
